How to play
Guess 5 US prices. The closer you are, the more points you get.
The 5 rounds
Each round shows one item. In rounds 1 and 2, tap the price you think is right. In rounds 3, 4 and 5, type your price and tap “Lock it in”. After each guess you see the real price, your score, one fact and the source.
- Round 1: tap one of 4 prices, up to 100 points.
- Round 2: tap one of 4 prices, up to 100 points.
- Round 3: type a price, up to 200 points.
- Round 4: type a price, up to 300 points.
- Round 5: type a price, up to 300 points.
Scoring
- Each round scores from 0 to 100. An exact guess scores 100.
- What counts is how far off you are compared with the real price. Being 10% too high scores 94, and 25% too high scores 73. Twice the real price, or half of it, scores 5.
- Later rounds count more: round 3 counts double, and rounds 4 and 5 count triple. Your total is out of 1000.
One puzzle a day
There is one new puzzle each day, and everyone gets the same puzzle on the same date. A new puzzle starts at midnight where you are.
Miss one day and your streak carries on, once in any 7 days.
US prices
All prices are US prices, in US dollars. Each answer shows the period its price is from.
Where the prices come from
Prices come from public data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and home values from the U.S. Census Bureau.
